First United Methodist Irving VBS Helps Irving Cares

Treasure Seekers Bring Loot to Less Fortunate

The “Treasure Seekers” Vacation Bible School children
at Irving First United Methodist Church not only had a great week exploring God’s promises, but helped those in need as well. The children donated a mountain of urgently needed items for Irving Cares including toothpaste, toilet paper, canned meats, fruits and cereal.

As an ongoing project, the children decorate sacks and fill them with food items for those in need who come by the church looking for assistance. In addition, every month that has five Sundays is “Food Basket Month” during which church members are asked to bring food and other necessary items in support of Irving Cares. “The congregation of First United Methodist has been a very good friend of Irving Cares for many years. Their mission outreach efforts help people around the world, as well as here in Irving, Texas. We are truly thankful for their support through financial gifts, food and hygiene product drives, and volunteers,” said Irving Cares Executive Director, Teddie Story.

In addition to the assistance First United Methodist Church provides to Irving Cares, church members support a variety of local community organizations including:

  • Mentoring and tutoring students at Paul Keyes Elementary School

  • Knitting lap blankets and warm caps for infants at Baylor Hospital at Irving.

  • Providing help and support to unwed mothers at Wesley Inn

  • Greeting visitors and returning soldiers at D/FW Airport.

  • Participating in Great Days of Service projects that donate labor and materials to repair homes in Irving for those in need.

The church also opens its doors to the gym to middle-schoolers on the first Friday night of each month for Friday Fun Night, hosts Golden Age Fellowship for seniors on the third Friday of each month in the Family Life Center. Several other groups also meet regularly at the church including the Parkinson Support Group, Travel Fellowship, Alcoholics Anonymous and The Society of Saint Andrew.

We are an active and vital church with activities, classes, and outreach for all.  First United Methodist Church is a place to discover “open doors, open minds, open hearts.”
