Ode to the Covered Dish
0 noble banquet served in Fellowship Hall!
Spread out on
folding tables food from wall to wall.
There's Susie
Pearl's fried chicken
and Bessie Mae's Casserole Supreme.
If you don't tell
these ladies how delicious it
was,
you will surely damage their self-esteem.
Next comes the salads, from pea to
macaroni.
And everyone knows Bachelor
Smith can't cook,
that's why he always brings sliced
baloney.
At the end of the table, there's a section
called "Miscellaneous."
Items like rolls, pickles, and
deviled eggs, and all things extraneous.
Ah! Sweet dessert!
Cakes, cobblers, and pies.
But who
put the shredded carrots in the Jell-0? That's one dish I truly despise.
Let the Baptists have their immersions, and the Catholics their votives so bright.
But we Methodists will champion the potluck
and
the price— it is just right!
