FUMC Missions

Faith Promise
A ‘Faith Promise’ is different. We are all
encouraged to give a tithe to the Lord. A tithe is a gift to the
General Fund of the church and covers our day to day operations.
A Faith Promise is much different than that. In the Bible there
are many such offerings that are over and above the tithe. Like
at First Methodist, we also encourage everyone to give to the
Building Fund to pay off our mortgage.
We all know that the Lord wants the gospel to
travel around the world, and a Faith Promise is a way to do just
that. All we are asking is that you trust God to work a miracle
in your life. Ask him to help you be a conduit of God’s love and
grace for the whole world. So ask the Lord Jesus for a number,
and pray that through some way (you don’t expect) he will bless
you so you can fulfill that promise. Part or all of your gift
can be designated to a particular mission group that you would
like to support. Through the years thousands of people have
made such promises and report an incredible out pouring of God’s
blessing. We encourage everyone at First Methodist to be a part
of ‘Faith Promise’. Simply ask the Lord to bless you so you can
give an offering over and above your tithe so the “Word of the
Lord” can spread throughout the whole world.
He will most
certainly hear your prayers.
Missions Trip 2010
Thanks to everyone for your support with this
year’s Missions Conference. It was a wonderful event and
continues our church’s legacy of supporting those in the
Missions field who work to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It was both inspiring and encouraging to see the many ways that
God uses the talents and gifts of all those willing to go into
the field. Many have come from our own church and we are
blessed to be their partners.
This summer we
will be sending a small group from our church for a short term
mission trip to Chincha, Peru, to work on light construction and
repairs at a school in this earth-quake damaged city. Our
group will also be helping children with English and working in
the surrounding community each afternoon to share the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
Later in the
summer or early in the fall, we are also planning a trip to the
Methodist Missions Home in San Antonio. We are currently
working with them to plan the project work and the dates. This
will be a wonderful opportunity for anyone in the church to be
involved with a hands-on mission. Your help is needed with both
of these projects.
First and
foremost, we ask for your prayers for all of those that will be
traveling and working away from home as they travel to Peru.
Please pray for their safety in travel and work and pray that
God would put them in just the right place to best use each of
them for His will. Pray that the families they leave behind
will be safe. Secondly, we need your help as each of those going
to Peru raise their own money for the trip. Please prayerfully
consider helping with their support in any way that you can.
We’ll have several fundraisers to help support them (including a
bake sale for Father’s Day) but your gift of $25 or more would
help make this work possible. Please designate ‘Peru trip’ with
your gift. Thank you again for all that you do to support our
church in fulfilling our legacy of missions and as we go about
“to make disciples of all nations.”

On
Friday, April 16th, 2010 we officially became Cadence
missionaries. We have been appointed to Hospitality House
Ministry. Which means we will be living in a Hospitality
House as full-time missionaries. A Hospitality House is “a
home away from home” where servicemen and women find an open
door, a comfortable couch, a home-cooked meal, and people
who listen, encourage, love, and point them to the hope of
Christ. Hospitality Houses offer different ministries
depending on location. These may include Bible studies,
singles groups, family-focused ministries, evangelistic
outreach efforts, one-to-one discipleship, and coffee house
ministries. Hospitality House missionaries strive to share
the ups and downs of life with military personnel,
encouraging them into deeper relationships with others and
with Christ. We are looking forward to finding out where the
Lord will send us.
As we prepare for full- time hospitality house ministry, our
major responsibility is to share about the needs of the
military community and how each of us can make a profound
difference in the lives of those that serve our country.

Children: Samuel 6 and Benjamin 4 years old
Paul and Dawn work alongside a missionary force of
Spaniards who are currently reaching their culture for
Christ through evangelism and discipleship ministries.
As Paul briefly mentioned in his short introduction to
his ministry in Madrid, the common misconception of the
peoples of Madrid and of Spain is that they are
predominately Catholic and Christian. The reality of the
situation is this demographic may comprise less than 1%
of the population. Much of the rest have an open
antipathy for the gospel. This can be said for much of
Europe. The harvest is ready. More laborers are needed
for the field.

Aids Orphans, Palliative Care and
Service Fund Donation Information
Jesus has called us to help those who are less
fortunate and to share in His love as our call to
mission. To support the ministries of Jesus Christ,
the United Methodist Church has the
Advance Special Program.
Any gift to support the
Maua Methodist Hospital Palliative care, Service
Fund, or AIDS Orphan Programs should be given
through your church by using their Advance Special
number. It is then sent to the General Board of
Global Ministries (GBGM), the UMC Mission Board, and
then on to Kenya.
Every dollar you send goes to the hospital to
support these ministries. There is no administrative
costs!
The Palliative Care Program provides
antiretroviral drugs to mothers with AIDS to keep
them alive for many years so they can raise their
children in good health. Twenty six dollars per
month will provide these antiretroviral drugs for a
mother with AIDS. Your support check can be written
to your local UMC church with a note that reads:
"For Advance Special #09613A - Maua Hospital Service
Fund, Kenya - NOTE: For Palliative Care".
The Service Fund pays for the medical
bills for our poorest patients and orphans in our
service to the Lord. We serve a very poor area and
we are the only hospital available to care for them.
Your support check can be written to your local UMC
church with a not that reads: "For Advance Special
#09613A - Maua Hospital Service Fund, Kenya"
The AIDS Orphan Program provides three nutritious
meals pre day to the orphans by giving food to their
caretakers, usually their grandmothers, who prepare
the meals at home. The ministry also provides
uniforms, shoes, and fees to send the AIDS Orphans
to primary school and provide for their medical
care. Fifteen dollars per month feeds and educates a
young AIDS Orphan. Your support check can be written
to your local UMC church with a note that reads:
"For Advance Special #140161 - AIDS Orphans'
Project, Maua Hospital, Kenya".
Please pray to the Lord for these ministries and
let the Holy Spirit guide you in your generous
giving.
"When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or
see you sick and care for you ...", and God will
reply; "When you have done this for the least of my
children, you did it for me." MATT 25:31-40
May God bless you as you share to bring God's
Kingdom of Love to the world. |

Bethlehem Center Dallas

Bethlehem Center was founded March
1, 1946, as an inter-racial project by Mrs. Paul
Bard, District President of Women’s Society of
Christian Service. It is a ministry of the United
Methodist Church, filling the needs for quality
childcare, youth activities, recreation and
development. The Center offers a wide range of
services in the South Dallas Community it has served

of Directors, and supported by volunteer services of
the Auxiliary and other friends of the Center,
including church groups, United Methodist Women,
Sunday School classes and individuals.
In 1946, the
program brought together programs in several
churches and the current facility was established.
Services include a fully accredited day care
program, 5-K program, and extended half-day classes
before or after classes at the Charles Rice School.
Volunteer attorneys provide legal advice. The center
sponsors a Boy Scout troop, and youth activities
such as sports, music, and arts. Other volunteers

The Bachman Foundry
3418 Park Lane
Dallas, Texas75220
The Bachman Foundry is a tiny Methodist Church-group
(no permanent building yet) located in the Bachman
Lake Hispanic section. Led by young Pastor Owen
Ross, the Foundry seeks to provide holistic ministry
to the Bachman community and to the North Texas
Conference.
As part of the North Texas Conference
's Vision 20/20 campaign, the initiative was taken
to plant a Spanish-speaking church in the
Burnet/North Bachman neighborhood. The name
"Foundry" was chosen in the tradition of John
Wesley's old canon foundry that he converted into a
church/social center for the urban London poor. In
that tradition, the Bachman Foundry has sought to
minister to the spiritual and temporal needs of the
residents of this neighborhood. On February 22nd of
this year, the Foundry celebrated its one-year
anniversary. The Church has embarked on an ambitious
agenda of after-school programs, ESL classes,
community organizing and much more.
Northaven UMC is a Covenant (supporting) Church
for the Bachman Foundry. Several members volunteer
in their after-school tutoring program.

C.W. and Emily Faulkner
C.W. and Emily Faulkner have faithfully ministered to
cadets and midshipmen at the Citadel for six years. Their goal
was to reach
young military students before they become leaders
in the military. They would like to see these
leaders spread their faith around the world as they
tour the world. The Lord has led them to a new ministry
which they believe supports the type of church the young
cadets officers would eventually join. They will be
leaving the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ this
summer and moving to Louisville, Kentucky to begin a
3-year seminary education.
Over 600 international students come from countries
around the world to study at the University of
Louisville. Many of these men & women will return home
and assume roles of significant influence in nations
with very little gospel ministry. We desire to take
advantage of this window of opportunity, becoming
friends to these students so far from home, helping them
adjust to life in America, and—most importantly—telling
them about the One who can forgive their sin and
transform their lives, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through
social contacts, personal friendships and one-on-one
conversations, we proclaim the gospel to all who will
listen, and disciple those who turn from their sin to
follow Jesus. Imagine these men & women embracing Jesus,
growing in their faith, and returning to their nations
as ambassadors for the King of kings!
