About Our Church
From the Pastor's Point of View
For
ninety-five years First United Methodist Church has
occupied a special place in the heart of Irving. It offers
a unique blend of traditional and contemporary worship,
education for children, youth and adults, spiritual
formation and service to our community.
As a
congregation of over 1,200, First United Methodist Church
in Irving has the strength and diversity to offer a wide
variety of opportunities for families and singles of all
ages. Our new sanctuary, completed in December of 2002, is
a landmark in Irving and a statement of our commitment to
God and to serving our neighbors.
We welcome
anyone who seeks a richer spiritual life, a different
perspective on our world or who would like an opportunity
to join with others who seek to heal the hurts and nourish
the hopes of those around us.
From the Lay Leader's Point of View
I joined First United Methodist Church in 1954 as a boy
of ten. I was a member of Boy Scout Troop 183 there,
married my high school sweetheart in the chapel in 1965
and saw my children baptized at First Methodist.
I have been nurtured, challenged, sustained,
encouraged, and loved by the people of First Methodist for
more than 50 years. It is a great church, a great place to
worship, serve God and it's filled with great people. The
staff at First Methodist is caring, talented, and
dedicated. The facilities are beautiful. The activities at
First Methodist are dynamic and wide ranging with
educational, musical, spiritual, and social outreach
programs available for all ages and for wherever you are
in your walk with God. I am sure you will find a place
here at First United Methodist that will embrace your
needs and fill your cup with God's richest blessings.
Come join on this Sunday and experience the
opportunities at First Methodist!
From a Parishioner's Point of View
My wife and I had been looking for a home church for
some time. She was visiting FUMC for a few weeks and
suggested I come with her. On first sight, the campus was
pleasing, the sanctuary was even better. It very much
reminded me of a church of my childhood, pleasant
surroundings, not pretentious, a place to worship.
Two things that stood out in my mind made me decide
to come back. One was some of the most genuinely
friendly people I've ever met. The other was it felt like
God was here. Not just in the building but all around.
It was the right place to be, the right place to go and
the right time to be there. I thank God and my wife for
bringing me to First United Methodist. I invite anyone
else looking for a church home to come and visit and see
for yourself. You could be touched by the Spirit as I
was.

Community
First United Methodist Church is located in the heart of the
newly revitalized Heritage District of downtown Irving. Shaded
by a large grove of magnificent oaks trees, the church
campus is within walking distance of
DART bus transit lines
and the
South Irving Transit Center for the Trinity Railway Express
terminal and one block from historic Heritage Park. Irving is
not a large urban city but shares the urban problems of
her large Metroplex neighbors. As Christ's church, we are
here to help in our community wherever and whenever we can.
We are postured to be THE church downtown and heritage
Irving area.
