Over the past weeks, we’ve all witnessed the unspeakable
devastation in Haiti. I want to
thank you for your generosity in giving to the United
Methodist Committee on Relief for their on-going efforts
there. To date, as a united body of Christ, we’ve sent over
$3,000 to UMCOR. 100% of the funds will go for this relief
effort. No money is taken out for administrative costs.
The most urgent needs that UMCOR is addressing are:
clean drinking water, food, shelter and medicine as well as
emotional support to hurting people who have lost entire
families. As you may be aware, UMCOR lost two of their own
when Sam Dixon and Clint Rabb, both executives with UMCOR
lost their lives in the earthquake.
Please continue to lift these recovery efforts up in
prayer and remember the lives of all of those who have been
hurt and lost. If you would still like to give to this
effort, you can make a check out to the church and designate
Haiti relief in the memo section. [of your check]
Thank you again for your continued love and support of
all of our mission’s efforts at Irving First. To God be the
glory!
“What shall I render to the Lord for
all His benefits toward me?” (Psalm 116:12)
This is a question of conscience for anyone who loves the
Lord and loves His church. It leads us to ask: What does the
Lord expect of us? What does the church expect of us? What
should we expect of ourselves? When we give to the church,
it is our way of showing what we value spiritually. Our
giving is to support the very core use of the church itself
– the love of the salvation of souls. We give because our
hearts burn with a desire to support this cause.
Think about this . . . If you were going to die soon and had only one
phone call you could make, who would you call and what would
you say? And why are you waiting?" - Stephen Levine

DO YOU HAVE LOVED ONES
SERVING IN THE MILITARY?
Please contact the church office
with their names and the locations
of where they
are presently serving. Thanks!
In WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a
group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at
a prescribed time for one minute to collectively pray for the
safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing
effect as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people
organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to
participate: each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (8:00 PM
Central, 7:00 PM Mountain, 6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you
are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the
United States, our troops, our citizens and for peace in the
world.
If you know anyone who would like to participate, please pass
this along. Someone said if people really understood the full
extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might
be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.
Let's start a new tradition
among the people of FUMC and commit to to
do this each day, one day at a time.
Thought for the
Week:
Southern
Ten Commandments
This much easier to
remember!!! Some people have trouble with all those 'shall's' and 'shall
not's' in the Ten
Commandments. Folks just
aren't used to talking
in those terms. So, in
middle Tennessee they
translated the 'King
James' into 'Jackson
County' language.....no
joke (posted on the wall
at Cross Trails Church
in Gainesboro, TN). (1) Just one God
(2) Put nothin' before
God
(3) Watch yer mouth
(4) Git yourself to
Sabbath meetin'
(5) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(6) No killin'
(7) No foolin' around
with another fellow's
gal
(8) Don't take what
ain't yers
(9) No tellin' tales or
gossipin'
(10) Don't be hankerin'
for yer buddy's stuff Now that's plain an' simple.
Y'all have a nice day!
