Kum Doubles & Koinonia
Spring Barbeque Dinner
April, 23 2005

ONe Armed Bandit
The "One Armed Bandit" starts off the chow line.

I think this is what happened. David tried to sleep in and miss breakfast one morning last week. He was muttering to himself, "don't want anymore Spam. I'm tired of it." That's just about when Sylvia came in a grabbed him by the arm and yanked him out of bed pulling his arm out of the socket. Oh, he'll be fine. Sylvia will hand feed him breakfast in bed the next few mornings. She'll cut his Spam for him.

The Chow Line
The Chow Line

Barbeque brisket and sausage, baked potato, beans, corn (one dish with jalapeños), hot rolls, tea and many deserts to choose from. The Koinonia class knows how to through a party. We even had live entertainment - gospel piano playing and singing. What a great time.

The Ladies

The Ladies (segregated)

Ever notice that the ladies all sit together. if a man tries to sit with them they give him a really hard time until he leaves. Of course if he is a new guy the go little easy on him but after the first week, look out.

The Men

The Men (integrated)

The men are different. They don't care who sits with them. They are much more accepting and kind. They reach out to their fellowman and do not discriminate based on race, creed or sex. Whew, boy!

The Game - FACT OR FICTION

Duane Reagan, the Game Show Host, made up the game 15 minutes before show time using trivia cards from another game. Each card had a brief story line like you would find on an inside page of a newspaper - on ANY topic, and I do mean ANY. The story line would be read and you would decide if it were fact or fiction. The men were pitted against the women in grueling competition.

Here common sense was a liability and advanced learning shut down your mind. The more you knew about a topic, the greater the chances of getting the answer wrong. For crying out loud, it's a 50/50 chance! You would think the odds would favor getting at least one right answer!

Well Duane made up the rules as the game progressed. raising frequent loud protests from the raucous crowd. Our pleas were brought to magistrate Jimmy Bellew of the rules committee. Jimmy, however, had closed the committee for the weekend so we were on our own. Many of the answers were pretty iffy, but equally so on either side. Try as we might, we could not top the fortune of the Ladies who came out on top, not necessarily from skill or advanced intelligence, but from the luck of the draw. 30 to 20.

Congratulations, ladies!
