Kum Doubles Dayton's Farewell Party
March 2008
Members of the class prepared enacted humorous tableaus that
depict the Daytons' contributions to the church, to the church's
mission fundraisers and milestones in their life. These
enactments were presented in a roast style format with Bill
Monte at the moderator/narrator cum host who did quite well with
stand-up comedy. He introduced the Dayton's giving a brief
history complete with humorous anecdotes that had the crowd
rolling.
Then Marne and Cindy led us all in a rousing chorus of "We'll Be
Coming to Kum Doubles When We Come" to the tune of "Coming
Around the Mountain". Then the festivities began.
David Mayhew as "The Photographer".
Jim was renown with his camera. His photographic
contributions include VBS; Sunday school gatherings, parties
and trips; and the huge job for the Church Directory (and
everything else in between)!

Jim never fumbled with his equipment

He tirelessly documented church activities

He was ready at a moments notice

His camera was always by his side - Judy on the other.
Rod Alleman - "The Kum Doubles Newsletter"
The "ever-fertile mind" of Jim Dayton cranked out a
newsletter every month for many years (as far back as 2006
and maybe earlier - Jamie and I weren't here then) with the
contribution of material from others. One thing that always
got my attention, was the fact his newsletter often got more
hits than any other page on the web site and often as far
away as the Philippines. What a missionary for God!

Jim always had his little notbook with him

I had to turn the camera sideways to get all of Rod in
the picture.

While They Were Doing All This
They had to "keep the home fires burning". Regardless of
the large amount of time consumed by church activities, they
still had issues to attend to at home and personal
challenges to overcome.

Squirrels in attic, bats in the belfry

Racoons in the garage, plumbing leaks...
Fundraising for missions continued to be a focus for Kum
Doubles and as usual the Daytons had an important role to play
in this.
Marni Monte - "Tastes of Heaven Cookbook"
The "A Taste of Heaven" was a very successful missions
fundraiser. It would not have been so if it were not for the
hard work and dedication AND the God-given talents of the
Daytons. To put this project together was a big sacrifice of
their personal time. It was done with professionalism and
attention to detail. We were proud to show it to anyone we
met - and not shy to ask for $10.00.

They had only thought they retired. This was a full time job
with overtime!

Front, back or inside, this was a herculean effort. Kudos
(with lime sauce)!
Bill Monte - Our Narrator/Host

Our host was witty and charming. It made for a very
enjoyable evening.
Mary Holcomb - "Crafts for Missions Fundraisers"
Judy would not miss a Kum Doubles craft "party" and often
hosted them. Have Glue Gun - Will Travel. Her contributions,
creativity and perseverance helped raise many dollars for
our church's missions. The strange combinations of wine
bottles, Christmas lights, glass blocks and who knows what
else turned into some really neat things (that people
snatched of the shelves) with the touch of talented hands.

Mary could not see well. In the next photo you will see why.

With dollars in her eyes, Mary extols Judy's praises for her
crafting contributions.

Behind the scenes, David Mayhew tried to plug in Mary's
glue gun.
