Your First Visit to FUMC Irving

We strive to make your first visit to our church as easy as possible. In order to help you feel a little more comfortable before you ever even step foot in the door, we’d like to answer some basic questions that you might be thinking about.

Q: Special Instructions During Covid
A: We are having in-person worship at 10:30 am Sundays. We are not currently offering Sunday School at 9:15 or Nursery at 10:30. However, your children are always welcome in the service. Masks are required to enter the building and to enter worship. You can sit with those who came to church with you. We have socially distancing seating in our large sanctuary. Of course, please stay home and watch on-line if you are feeling poorly or have been exposed to someone with Covid or Covid symptoms.

Q: Where is the church?
A: We are located in historic downtown Irving at 211 W. 3rd Street, across from McDonald’s and Burger King. See our Google Map to get directions.

Q: What do I wear?
A: Ultimately, we want you to be comfortable, to be YOU. On Sunday morning you could see everything from business suits or dresses to t-shirts and shorts. There are no expectations to meet.

Q: When do I arrive?
A: Our Sunday worship service at 10:30 am is a blended style of music. It includes some use of liturgy, and we have screen projection that adds to the celebration. There are Sunday School classes for all ages at 9:15 am.

Q: What about my Children?
A: Children are a blessing at FUMC Irving! We invite and encourage you to bring your children with you. Sunday School is available for children in pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade in the children’s education wing. Sunday School for youth 6th through 12th grade meet at 9:15 am on the 2nd floor of the Family Life Center. Childcare is available for children four and under during Sunday School and worship. Your children will receive a fun lesson that focuses on biblical truths and includes music, movement, and more. Children of all ages are also welcome to stay with their parents during worship services.

During the 10:30 am service children are invited to participate in worship up through the Children’s Message where they will receive a kid-friendly message. Children will remain with their family throughout the service.

Children are given activity bags to engage them during worship. Each bag is filled with puzzles, coloring pages, and objects for creative minds. For children under 4 years, we have our quality nursery care. We want you to feel comfortable entrusting your infants, crawlers, and toddlers to the care of our loving first aid and CPR certified nursery staff. We practice “Ministry Safe” at all times. The nursery is located on the 2nd floor of the education wing.

Children’s activity are welcome in the sanctuary during worship, however, we know that sometimes a child’s guardian becomes anxious when their child seems to be disturbing those around them. In such cases, there is also a beautiful cry room available for parents and their children located behind the windows on the southeast wall inside the sanctuary. You will be able to hear, see and participate in worship with your child.

Q: Where do I park?
A: First time visitor parking is located on the west side of the sanctuary building, across from McDonald’s. And there is ample off street parking on the west, east, and south side of the church campus. Additional on street parking is available on Hastings, Ohio, and 3rd Street. There are designated handicap parking spaces in the small parking area on the south side of the main building with the portico and in the parking lot west of the sanctuary building. Entrance to the buildings may be accessed through the double wooden doors or double glass doors.
